Making crop state projectable
Question. How do we move from a crop that is observable and explainable (Layers I–II) to one whose growth can be projected under environment and management scenarios, with decision risk quantified (Layer III)?
Starting point. Coupling structure–radiation–photosynthesis–growth processes with data assimilation. This is the focus of current work.
Leaf optics beyond the measured domain
Question. Can trait-based BRDF prediction hold across genotypes, environments, developmental stages and water status?
Why it is open. The BRDF model was built from 270 data entries across four species. Predictions outside the measured trait and wavelength ranges need new validation.
From simulated light fields to field outcomes
Question. When leaf optical diversity changes the simulated light field inside a canopy, does that translate into measurable differences in the field?
Why it is open. The ray-tracing results show changes in simulated light distribution; on their own they do not demonstrate yield gains.
Cross-modal registration over time
Question. How should hyperspectral, LiDAR, RGB and thermal observations of the same plants be registered and analysed over time?
Why it is open. In the MCTP workspace, cross-modal registration and temporal analysis are not yet automatic capabilities.
